Big Rock 1 - Getting My Office In Order

As you can clearly see, the process of cleaning up an 'office gone wild' can be physically and mentally exhausting as well as frustrating.

Here is a bit about the process of the clean up and how I overcame resistance...

(no, it doesn't always look this way! This is the after shot when I had pulled most everything out of the closet :0)

I got what I could get done for the day and…

Fresh Start with decluttering.

I like the idea of Fresh Start and think it will work well for my decluttering goals. I've mapped out six big areas to declutter over the six months:

  • Home office/hallway/basement--six weeks. All three are connected so if one gets decluttered, the others benefit. And if one of them doesn't get cleaned out, then all three areas are stuck.
  • Bedroom--four weeks. This bedroom somehow became the dumping ground for all the extra clothes and sports stuff.
  • Kitchen--four…

Day 4 of 12 for 12

I was trying to decide what to pick up next that would be fairly quick and easy and I tripped over them!

A pile of books that I had meant to give away.

In the give away box they go, I'm one more eyesore and nagging to do out of the way and finished!

Day Three of 12 for 12

Today I cleared a bunch of jam jars that I had left over from doing some canning from the counter - along with the lids they total more than 12 and a big cluttery eyesore off of the counter in under 5 minutes to boot!

I'm starting to see that there is a major goal or result that I am looking for at the end of the 12 days - to take down the level of disorganization around here so that it is easier to function when I am busy.

How about you?

Day 2 of 12 for 12

Up bright and early and did my 12 for 12 in my closet sorting old bedding etc.

I had planned to do papers but it was there and I was there and next thing I knew I was sorting and getting rid of a pile.

Now I want to paint my shelves!

That will be great added incentive to keep clearing them.

Something else I'm noticing is that I am being more mindful around the house and getting back to doing my…

12 for 12 Mini Clear Space Challenge - Join In!

Today I started a new program called 12 for 12.

Put away, throw away or give away 12 things every day for the next 12 days.

I decided to work on my desk because that has been causing me the most problems lately.

The best news is that it inspired me to do a lot more than 12 items, I cleared it off!

One more pile to go and my desk will be finished.

I can't wait. After that I am going to continue in my office.

I'm finding now that I'm working I am too…

Review of last few weeks

I have spent a huge amount of time in the last 3 weeks.

I have also launched into the garden.

My biggest achievements have been to make a start on removing the ivy in the garden which has been choking some of the trees and had begun to cover the garage roof with a thick soggy green mass of moss ivy and soil.

I manage to remove all of this yesterday by climbing onto the garage roof, a great feat for an ageing and overweight lady.

The garage is clear and I…

Clean Like the Washing Machine Repair Guy Is Coming!

My washer has been broken down for the last 2 weeks. The 2nd repair guy who was called told me he would be here today, so I spent a good part of my BOOST time (double day!) and today's BOOST fine tuning the bathroom - it's one of those bathrooms that grows clutter all by itself I'm sure. It is more like a utility/bathroom I guess.

Anyway, it looks great!

Since I…

Getting kitchen and bathroom sorted again

I was very busy with elections up until May, so my spring cleaning was rather delayed. I have now begun to do my proper spring cleaning. I started by drawing up 31 jobs in the bathroom. I was amazed that I actually found so many - usually I just whizz round in about 5 minutes.

But these are deep clean jobs. I started with the windows - they looked so much better once they were cleaned. Today I took down the blind and detached it from the roller. Put it through the washing…

I Don't Like Clutter and Confusion!

Boy have I realized in the past week or so how clutter and disorganization stresses me out and steals my energy.

I had to clear my entire work area for my soap business so that we could lay a new floor. This meant having to pile a lot of it around, making my downstairs area a huge mess and pretty much disfunctional until I could get it sorted and put away - which was a challenge because I wanted to change it around to create a much nicer working area rather than storage/work…

Getting papers sorted

Today I threw out quite a lot of old magazines and papers. We now have a new kerbside bin, where we can throw out paper - it goes into a caddy at the top of the wheelie bin. This is collected every 2 weeks. So my new resolution is to fill that every week. So once a fortnight I can put it out, then the other week I can go to the recycle dump myself to empty it.

On Friday the piano tuner arrived - I had totally forgotten he was coming. The whole area was junked…

Having a Double Day

Since being away for 2 days and the changes we've been making in the house (redecorating my bedroom and putting a new floor down in my workroom) I am finding myself behind with piles cropping out of the woodwork (funny how that seems to be where the come from!)

So I'm playing the double day game today - doing all of my boost areas twice.

Also I am going to be more mindful of picking up after myself AND doing a little bit more - if I walk by a pile I am hereby…

Welcome To the No KAOS Zone Community Area!!

Just wanted to give a quick hello and welcome to our new/old No KAOS Zone Community.

I haven't decided whether we should change the header/name to the No KAOS Zone or leave it as it is.

Any votes?

I am going to be out of town until Sunday evening with no internet (just found out, sometimes I can access through the bell stick but it is not in the…

Spring Back into Spring!!

Spring is in the Air!

One funny thing that I'm always hearing about is Spring Cleaning. I have to confess that I don't Spring Clean at all.

Most people's idea of Spring Cleaning is an entire day spent cleaning house. Couldn't think of anything worse.

No thanks! That's not for me! I prefer to use the Spring into Spring Challenge, and tackle it bit-by -bit.

Our home is looking better because of this. Now, don't get me wrong! I'm not saying that I do it each and…

Well here I go again with Spring into Spring! I think it's been a good idea to print off the Spring into Spring Challenge and to use it again and again. I use it in combination with the Boost Circuit and the Take 5 daily missions, and this seems to make a big difference.

I am able to accomplish a lot without even thinking about it! The routines are almost becoming automatic...

If I go a couple of days without doing anything, it isn't too hard to get back into doing the challenges, and… Continue

Reorganising filing cabinets

I gave away a full sized photocopier and the relief is enormous - such an opening up of empty space.

The house is coming on - but is still a long way off dazzling.

Today I am clearing a wooden filing cabinet - one of those little ones that fits under the desk.

It is in the area by the piano and I am going to bring it out of there and put it where the photocopier was - to sort - but ultimately it can go out. It could go up to Ronaldo's room or could go under my… Continue

Memo for myself about future blog posts

My blogging has been quite active for the last couple of days. That's because so many things have been cancelled in the snow that I have had some extra time in the house and as I spent a lot of the holidays working on this and it all started to come together, I have just decided to push it to the next level. On Monday though, I have loads of meetings and functions starting again, so I won't be able to do this. But I hope to keep up the basic method of making a circuit of the house and… Continue

Menu plans - the lazy way

I have been to Sparkpeople and downloaded 2 menu plans. One is for 'this week' and one is for 'next week'. I have also recorded my weight and measurements etc. The good news is, I am losing weight again.

I have been quite tempted by some menu-planning software, but I can't buy anything at the moment because of my deep financial crisis. However, they do have free menu-reading software and free menu-reading books and free menu books. One day when my finances are better I could buy it -… Continue

What I found under the sink

Under the sink was not too bad, at least from the organisational point of view. I must have tidied it at some point or maybe someone else did.

It was really quite tidy.

All the shoe shining stuff has disappeared, from under the sink though, and I think this may have gone into the cupboard next door to the sink. This next door cupboard is a totally different matter - it is terribly untidy, crammed to the gills with miscellaneous stuff and spare lightbulbs that I can't find… Continue
