Living Clean

Clean Up Your Messy House Tour with Peter Walsh on Oprah - Did You See It?

Anyone doing the Clean Up Your Messy House Tour on Oprah that Peter Walsh is organizing?
I watched the show yesterday - of course.

It's the one show that I try to catch most days, and I wouldn't miss Peter Walsh or 'the tour' and the words of wisdom about clutter, messy houses and how to get it cleaned up and organized.

Oprah says, "Your Home Should Rise Up to Meet You".

That's the exact feeling that I find so rewarding when I get things under control.

I just call it the AHHHHH experience. That feeling of peace.

It reminded me this morning of the saying I have tried to live by, by Maya Angelou "Do your eyes light up when your child walks in the room?".

I am finding that "I" light up when I walk in a room now days.

It's one of the best feelings.

And something that I went for years without even knowing I was missing it, buried beneath the clutter there somewhere.

CLUTTER ROBS US

Peter Walsh tells us that clutter robs us of peace, harmony, focus and motivation.

It is so true.

And without those, we can't seem to get a handle on the clutter, a never ending cycle.

There were a few other things that Oprah and Peter mentioned on the show that I had recently written about.

How clutter is a reflection of your mind - and other things - and how even though we can't control a lot of things going on outside in the world, even inside of our own world, there are things that we CAN control.

And believe it or not, clutter IS one of them, even if we have little kids, especially if we have little kids.

I see the importance of it more and more as my own kids get older and I wish with all my heart that I had known when they were small what I know now.

If you have little ones, I know it's tough, very tough, but you can do it.

You need to make it a priority and focus on it and not expect to tackle it over night. (oh yeah, I was talking about Peter and Oprah's Messy House Tour, not my own :0)

What CAN You Do?

Messy House, Messy Mind

WANT TO CLEAN UP YOUR MESSY HOUSE? THERE'S PEACE IN CLEAR SPACES...

You need to decide on your criteria. Sounds boring and blah, blah, blah.

BUT it is going to be your measuring stick, and a very important one.

When you are deciding on whether or not to keep something, it will be your incentive to kick it and claim back your clear spaces - and your sense of peace and well being.

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

Join the Clean Up Your Messy House Challenge.

You will need 2 bags - one for trash, one for donations. (and a recycle box).

You can even make one for ebay or for a yard sale.

Peter calls it Clutter to Cash.

Kind of catchy!

Start small. Start today.

10 minutes. Right now.

ANOTHER OPTION

If you want something a little different, check out my Spring Cleaning Challenge.

It may not be spring where you are, but it is THE REASON that I can watch this show without having to get off my behind and grab some bags - mine is already done.

OK, we can all do a little more decluttering but I've already got a handle on it because I did the Spring Cleaning Challenge last spring, and it set me up rather nicely by doing 20 minutes per day of focused decluttering.

I was amazed at the stuff I was getting rid of, even in spaces that I thought were clear. WRONG!

I topped it off with my BOOST Circuit and haven't looked back, as a matter of fact, I enjoy looking forward now.

I even LIKE to clean. WOW.

That's because it just keeps getting better. Far better than the days that everywhere I looked 'something' had to be done, cleaned, decluttered or worse - ignored.

What ever you choose to do, choose to do something today, if you are letting clutter get the best of your life, and that of your family.

Pop back here any time, I'd love to hear how you are doing.
