The target of the day was to deep clean the counter... to take 5 minutes and move things... wipe under them... on top... get rid of stuff... you know the drill.
I was cleaning up some things that I was behind on anyway, so it was a good fit. We have a window behind our counter that often gets neglected so while I was moving things, I decided to take an extra 5 minutes and take a swipe at it.
I didn't aim for perfection, just wanted to make it 5 minutes better than it was.
And I did. It looks so much noticeably better, I have no idea why I didn't do it before.
But the most unexpected and best thing that happened was that for the rest of the day I felt like I had accomplished something, like I had gotten ahead.
Granted - it is a fairly small thing - but that is the beauty of the taking 5. Small things that pack a big punch, in your house, and even more importantly, in you mindset.
I felt great all day because in total I had taken 10 minutes to do something that I normally wouldn't have.
The task for today is to gather my recipes that I collected during our target yesterday and make plans for a menu for one day - grocery list, make ahead tasks and choosing the menu.
It's late, I haven't done it yet and the thing that keeps coming to my mind is - I don't have time.
Then I remember that I only need to work on it for 5 minutes. I shouldn't need longer than that at any rate.
And then I remember that I can take it to bed and do it during my nightly reading time.
Actually, it will be interesting. Now I can't wait to get at it - it means that I get to go to bed!
And tomorrow, I will feel fantastic because I will have a plan for dinner. Something healthy.
I've been looking at making more salads, so I will be digging out one of the salad recipes I found.
All because of the power of just 5 minutes - today.
If you haven't checked out our
