Living Clean

Boy have I realized in the past week or so how clutter and disorganization stresses me out and steals my energy.

I had to clear my entire work area for my soap business so that we could lay a new floor. This meant having to pile a lot of it around, making my downstairs area a huge mess and pretty much disfunctional until I could get it sorted and put away - which was a challenge because I wanted to change it around to create a much nicer working area rather than storage/work in one place.

It took me awhile but I have almost finished.

I really had a hard time getting motivated - I felt really tired and dragged out during the entire process. It lifted as I progressed and now that I'm pretty much 'dug out' I am starting to feel like my old self again.

It really was a good illustration for me as to how clutter, disorganization and feeling out of control effects your ability to conquer those very things - it's like a vicious cycle that you need to take great effort to step out of, but once you do it gets much easier.

And that is why we must do it!!

It's like crossing a line - 1000 pounds of confusion and energy sapping glumness on the one side, happiness and freedom on the other. Once you decide which way you want to live, get your timer out and do it - you can cross to other side slowly but surely.

Or maybe even quickly :0)

If you are feeling the way I did, don't give up.

Take the first step today to get it out of your way so that you can have the energy and attitude to enjoy your life.

1. Put aside some time. Make it manageable and non negotiable, no matter how little time you have.

2. Get a timer. Most cell phones come with one or if you don't have one you may be able to find an online timer.

(if you have one that you like, please post it below!)

3. Pick a pile and get to it. Be sure to have a place to put things (garbage, give away or put away) and don't put that part off, otherwise you will only have moved the piles. Use a bit of the time you've put to the side to deal with what ever you have sorted.

4. You're done! Feeling a little better and more energized for next time. Be sure to schedule a 'next time' very soon and follow the steps again.
