Living Clean

I started on the bedroom clutter but realized I am just really shifting the stuff around the room. So I have decided to completely re-organise it. At the moment a huge amount of stuff is being stored in the bedroom. This happened as a result of having to open up the house so I could have lodgers here and the downstairs room where I am sleeping at the moment still has the bookshelves and things in it that it had when it was an ordinary downstairs room.

On top of these are boxes of papers sheet music and other things that came out of other rooms.

On the other side are 2 trolleys of papers.

So now I am going to try to remove enough of the books that I can use the shelves for clothing and make-up like I saw the German family doing - I visited this family a couple of years ago and they had lovely rooms with wooden shelves that had no doors - which makes it super easy to organise thing on the shelf - but it all has to be tidy as you can see it all the time.

So my initial work will be in reducing the sheer amount of stuff in the room, and removing everything that is not related either to living and sleeping or to my complementary therapies. That is already a bit self-indulgent, but there is a possibility I will be going back to an upstairs room and working down here on my complementary therapies. That is a little way off, as I will need to sort out whether I can use the house for a business as I am living in a conservation area. So I may have to go back to being a mobile therapist - but I still want a base for the books and things that belong to the business.

Then there is some sewing stuff in here. This could ultimately go in the study, but as the study is so narrow and overfilled with paper that needs filing I just can't use it for sewing yet.

So the bedroom will need a shelf for sewing, some shelves for clothing and a shelf for complementary therapies. Not sure about the rest yet.

At the moment there is a wire chest of drawers in front of the shelves - that was put there as an emergency temporary measure. It does work quite well, but there is an overload of furniture all piled together - and there has to be either the shelves or the drawers and not both.

Then the hanging space is kind of dead at the moment as I can't get to it.

Inside the cupboard is also a baby chest of drawers that had nowhere else to go.

I need to get rid of this and move the cupboard to a different part of the room where I can open and shut it more easily.

I think tomorrow will be a morning for taking stuff out of the house so I can then see what to do with what is left.

This is a better job for Mondays, in case I have to go to the dump - because there are queues at the dump on a Sunday, whereas on a Monday it is pretty empty. However, I think I can get rid of most of it at local recycle places and collect any dump stuff for another day. This could go in the garage. The main thing is to get it out of the house as quickly as possible.

There is already a load of stuff on its way out from the other rooms, so this can be a get rid of morning. The kerbside recycling was taken away on Thursday which means the recycling bins are empty. So this is a good week to do the declutter as I can work with the empty bins since I don't need them for the recycling.

The council collect the kerbside recycling one week then the next week they collect the garden rubbish. So I could do the garden declutter every other week and do the house declutter when the recycling bins are empty and use the recycling bins for the room to room declutter.

As well as the bins, I will fill some bags with books and put these into the book recycle. And there is also stuff for the paper recycle and the clothing recycle.

Then there is stuff for the office, and stuff for the plastic recycle.

I only have half a morning for this, as I need to collect something from Northaw and want to go for a short walk in Northaw great wood if it is not raining miserably. One of my tasks is to do some exercise and I like to walk in a natural setting - so will get out my walking boots and put them in the car.
